If you’ve been waiting for another night of live country music in Northwest Indiana, Mitchell Tenpenny is bringing his Speed of Light Tour to Bulldog Park in Crown Point on Sunday, September 27.
And the timing couldn’t be better.
Tenpenny is arriving in Crown Point in the middle of a pretty busy stretch of new music, with his latest single, “Ain’t My Problem,” officially released yesterday, September 25, just two days before he takes the stage at Bulldog Park.
So yeah… Crown Point is getting a pretty fresh version of Mitchell Tenpenny.
A New Chapter With “Speed of Light”
Tenpenny has been on the road with his headline Speed of Light Tour since February, bringing his mix of country, rock, pop and R&B influences to fans across the country.
The tour takes its name from his song “Speed of Light,” released earlier this year. The track came together during a writing session with Teddy Swims, along with Jesse Hampton and Dallas Wilson, after the group started talking about creating something euphoric and almost otherworldly.
For Tenpenny, the song also filled a gap in his catalog. He wanted a love song that reflected who he is at this point in his life, rather than simply revisiting an earlier version of himself.
That song has continued to evolve throughout the year. A “Speed of Light (Wedding Version)” was released in August, and now another new song is about to join the lineup.
“Ain’t My Problem” Is Officially Out
There’s no more waiting on this one.
Mitchell Tenpenny’s newest single, “Ain’t My Problem,” officially dropped Friday, September 25, giving fans brand-new music just two days before he heads to Crown Point.
If you haven’t heard it yet, now’s the time to give it a listen. And if you’ve already had it on repeat since yesterday, you’ll get the chance to see Tenpenny bring his newest music to the stage tomorrow night at Bulldog Park.
And of course, “Ain’t My Problem” isn’t the only recent addition to his catalog. Tenpenny also released “Speed of Light (Wedding Version)” in August, following the original “Speed of Light” earlier this year.
So there’s plenty of newer music to hear when the Speed of Light Tour rolls into Northwest Indiana tomorrow night.
The Album Behind the Tour
If you want to get familiar with Tenpenny before the show, his third studio album, The 3rd, is a good place to start.
Released last fall, the 20-track album takes a much broader look at Tenpenny as an artist. Rather than sticking to one particular sound, the album moves through different styles and influences, reflecting the range of music he grew up loving and the experiences that have shaped him.
The title itself is personal.
Tenpenny is the third generation in his family to carry the name James Mitchell Tenpenny. His father was James “Mitch” Mitchell Tenpenny, and his grandfather was James “Butch” Mitchell Tenpenny.
The result is an album that feels like a look at where he came from while also showing where he’s headed.
And with 20 songs to choose from, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll find at least one that feels like it belongs to you.
From Nashville to the Grand Ole Opry
Tenpenny’s career has continued to grow well beyond radio and streaming numbers.
Recently, he and his wife, fellow country artist Meghan Patrick, shared the Grand Ole Opry stage together for the first time. The two performed their own sets before joining Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s “It’s Your Love” to close out the night.
There’s also been a pretty major change happening offstage.
Tenpenny and Patrick welcomed their first child, Ember “Emmy” James Tenpenny, on September 1.
So when Tenpenny rolls into Crown Point this weekend, he’ll be coming off a pretty major season personally as well as professionally.
Music With a Bigger Purpose
Music isn’t the only thing Tenpenny has spent years putting his name behind.
In 2018, he created the 10Penny Fund in honor of his father, who died from cancer in 2014. Since then, the foundation has raised more than $500,000 to support people affected by cancer.
This year, the 10Penny Fund partnered with ACM Lifting Lives to provide financial assistance to music industry professionals dealing with cancer. The partnership includes funding for emergency grants that can help with medical expenses, household necessities and mental health support.
It’s a cause that hits close to home for Tenpenny. His father died from cancer, and his mother has also battled breast cancer.
It’s another side of an artist whose music has increasingly reflected his experiences, relationships, family and the different chapters of his life.

Now, that tour makes its way to Northwest Indiana.
